Arizona Thunder defeats Team Outcast in Final
|
CIFCA opened it's 21st Season at the 24th Annual Funny Car Fever at Sacramento Raceway on Saturday April 9. After a heavy rain storm on Friday the teams came out and put on a great show on Saturday.
Qualifying was quite a treat as the air was very good causing the cars to make a lot of horse power and a lot of teams ran career bests by the end of the weekend.

In Qualifying AMP Motorsports lead the way with an out of the box 7.513 to take the

hurt the motor on that run. Other high lights of qualifying were Lindsey Pruett in her

Eliminations brought fourth great side by side racing and a lot of luck. In the opening
frame Becky Sylvester ran Mike Halstead. Mike left on Becky but got crossed up. Becky
ran a career best 7.33 however ended up losing to Mike with an 8.28 because she
broke out. Jamie Leppanen faced Dan Whiteman in the closest race of the first round
where Dan won with an almost perfect 7.499 with an awesome .402 light to Jamie's
7.46. Dan picked up the Enderle Quick Reaction Award for his efforts. Andre Pegues
and Brad Faria faced each other and both red-lighted. Andre came out as Brad was the
victim in the first or worse rule.
The next round of racing brought back the 2 fast losers to face each other. Becky
Sylvester and Jamie Leppanen faced off and Jamie ran a almost perfect 7.509 with a
.483 light to take the Good Vibrations Best Package Award and the win. Mike Halstead
defeated Andre Pegues with an awesome 7.503 to Andre's 7.490.
The Semi's had Dan Whiteman and Jamie in a rematch of the first round. At the start
Dan left on Jamie but the Arizona Thunder drove around for the win. Mike Halstead
faced Charles Ware and in a double break out Mike took the win.
The final pitted Mike Halstead in the Team Outcast Chevy vs. Jamie Leppanen in his
Arizona Thunder Firebird. At the hit Jamie jumped out to a quick lead, however Mike
pulled up and was out in front when he broke out with a 7.41 giving Jamie the win
The fans also enjoyed a special treat as 2004 CIFCA Champion Dennis La Chartie
brought out his Back in Black Nostalgia Fuel Funny Car and ran the second quickest
pass in VRA trim with an awesome 6.09 at 244 MPH.
The 24th Annual Funny Car fever was a huge success. The fans really enjoyed the side
by side burnouts and the close racing. This just showed that even in a new era CIFCA is
stronger than ever.
